History of Renton Farmers Market

The Renton Farmer's Market was established in 2002 as a large group of Renton leaders, led by councilwoman Toni Nelson, met and discussed the possibilities. Research was done, other markets visited and a farmers survey conducted and over a period of 18 months, the Renton Farmer's Market was created.

Our market is unique in that it is sponsored by three entities: the City of Renton, which gave seed money, park use and support, printing services, advertising through utility bills, secretarial support for mailing to vendors and continued oversight and good advice. Renton Chamber of Commerce is the second partner and has helped us with contacts in the community, by providing our financial base (a person who deposits our funds, writes our checks and gives advice when needed). The third group is Piazza Renton, a volunteer group of approximately 30 people. Piazza Renton was organized about 14 years ago when the City of Renton first began the revitalization of the downtown area. Piazza Renton's goal was to plan and produce activities at the Park, so when the planning for the Renton Farmer's Market began, Piazza Renton was naturally involved.

Piazza volunteers organize and staff the Market beginning with meetings and planning in January until opening in June, and then 3pm to 7pm each Tuesday for 16 weeks.
